Genesis 44:1-34 A Silver Cup in a Sack

Genesis 44:1-34 A Silver Cup in a Sack

Joseph told his steward to fill the brothers' bags with as much grain as they could carry and to also put their silver back in their bags.  In Benjamin's bag he also told them to put his silver cup in the bag with his grain.  In the morning the brothers were sent on their way.

When they had not gone too far Joseph sent his steward after them and told them to stop them and ask them why they repaid good with evil.  The brothers said that if it was found the person would die and everyone else would become servants. The steward said let it be and the brothers lowered their sacks.  The stewards started with the oldest brother and worked their ways down.  The cup was found in Benjamin sack and the brothers tore their clothes.

Once back in Egypt the brother threw themselves to the ground before Joseph.  The brother pleaded with Joseph and asked how they could prove their innocence.  Joseph said that only the one that was found with the cup will be Joseph’s servant and the rest can go back to their father.  Then Judah explained all that had happened.  Then he explained how they could not go back without Benjamin.  He also told him about how his father lost his other brother.  Judah said that if he did not return with this child his father would surely die.  He asked for him to take the place of Benjamin in being his slave.
